Mitch Dubey benefit / MHTJ final gig full sets

Each band’s full set from My Heart to Joy’s last show / the Mitch Dubey benefit show on May 14th is up: tpshlf.co/pwYdP8. Reblog!

Fuck Off All Nerds: A Benefit Compilation for Mitch Dubey

ALL proceeds go directly to the Dubey Family. Several pre-order options are available:

Single LP: http://tpshlf.co/l6xkqp.

LP 4-pack: http://tpshlf.co/lJhYlp

LP + Shirt package deal: http://tpshlf.co/iI5d7j

Live tracks recorded during My Heart To Joy’s final gig on may 14, 2011 from The Book Slave, Slingshot Dakota, Into It. Over It., Algernon Cadwallader, Snowing, Hostage Calm, Jettison and My Heart To Joy’s final set.

Album art by Ben Sears. Limited edition prints by Juan Gabe, Derrick Shanholtzer, Ryan Nelson, Adam Vass, Kevin Duquette & Ben Sears. Exact track listing TBA. Lastly, if you have a discount code for our store, please, please, PLEASE don’t use it. ALL of this money goes to the Dubey’s.

Tumblr users: MANDATORY REBLOG.

I know we said pre-orders would go up last week for the Mitch Benefit comp, but we didn’t want to put stuff up prematurely. This is something we want to make sure to handle correctly. That said: above is a preview of the cover art. The compilation is titled Fuck Off All Nerds: A Benefit Compilation for Mitchell Dubey.
Ben Sears is working on the art and we’re working on some really special package options. Adam Vass, Ben Sears, Juan Gabe, Derrick Shanholtzer, Ryan Nelson and myself are all creating illustrations for hand screened postcards that will be included with the packaging. Chris Teti sent me all the mixed audio from each band’s respective set and it sounds great! This will actually be a great sounding live record for a great cause. (In case you’re unaware of the details surrounding this, please see here). It’s amazing to have so many talented people come together to create this.
I also want to take the opportunity to quote my friend — and Mitch’s best friend — Andy; from something he wrote shortly after Mitch’s death:

In the past few weeks there has been a lot of love and positive energy directed towards those of us who were most directly affected, and it is truly inspiring and overwhelming. Sometimes everyone’s kindness alone brings me to the verge of tears. Everyone seems to be a little nicer to each other, a little kinder and a little more positive. Unfortunately, I know from past experience that this isn’t going to last. Soon enough life will go back to normal for most people, so I would urge everyone to act on whatever impulse they have right now to start a project or reach out to loved ones. Life is too short to be wasted on bullshit; it is unfortunate that it takes an incident like this to make us truly grasp that fact, but let’s not waste it. Tell your friends and family that you love them. Don’t be scared. It’s going to get easier.

Thanks guys! You can still make a donation to the Dubey family via paypal to Lauren.Dubey@gmail.com

My Heart To Joy’s Final Show & Dubey Family Benefit LP

Pretty much everything has a start and an end. For My Heart To Joy, May 14th at the Madison Arts Barn in Madison, CT will be that end. All proceeds from the band’s final show will go directly to the family of Mitch Dubey.

My Heart To Joy, who has been at the forefront of the Connecticut music scene for the past few years, will be sharing their final show with Algernon Cadwallader, Hostage Calm, Jettison, Snowing, Into It. Over It., Slingshot Dakota, and The Book Slave. The price for this amazing line up is a minimum of a $10 donation to the Dubey Family.

We’ve teamed up with the venue and all of the bands to release a live LP that will include at least one song from each band’s set. All proceeds from the album will go to the Dubey Family. Artwork for the album will be done by Ben Sears and more details on the record will be released after the show. Mitch Dubey, who was a good friend of both My Heart To Joy and Topshelf Records, was recently murdered at his New Haven, CT home.

See ya there, nerds.

“Get Motion!” - Big Kids

Got a big ol’ boner for this band right now. “Hoop Dreams” is a great record. If you like the Hot Water Music-esque side of the punk scene that’s thriving right now, you’ll really dig these guys. Get that shit!

New Big Kids EP

Big Kids on tour with Algernon Cadwallader

Hey guys! S’more updates for you this week. We’re really happy to be announcing that we’ll be putting out the brand new EP from Oakland, CA natives Big Kids. The band will finish recording the 3-song EP before the month is over and we plan to have it released for this spring via digital and vinyl.

Big Kids are in the middle of a west coast jaunt with good friends Algernon Cadwallader and are currently playing new tracks live. The remaining dates of the tour are below. Last summer we co-released Big Kids’ debut LP Hoop Dreams with Protagonist Music on vinyl and digitally. Big Kids have also started a blog where they have kept people up to date on the funny happenings on the road with Algernon.

1/14 @ The Artistery in Portland, OR
1/15 @ Chez Puget in Olympia, WA
1/16 @ The Black Lodge in Seattle, WA

More info including cover art, title, and pre-order coming soon.

This is gonna be really exciting! Not sure exactly when the bands are gonna start but just listen to the whole show..the other music I’ll play tonight is gonna be from bands that are relatively new/current (which is hard for me!). Maybe an awkward interview or something too?
